OVERVIEW
Food is a universal aspect of everyday life. Because of today’s advanced technology and the ability to share on social media, food photographs are everywhere. For this reason, demand for high-quality food imagery is at an all-time high, yet the ability to consistently create images of food with impact is elusive to many.
Over the course of two days, Jim Sullivan will share his approach to this genre of photography, providing participants with tips, real world examples and insight into the life of a freelance photographer.

AGENDA
Day 1: Leica Store Los Angeles:
SATURDAY: will be spent at the Leica store Los Angeles. It will be an interactive lecture, discussion & presentation portion. The workshop will cover the aspects of being a freelance food photographer from business to creative aspects. Lunch will be provided by chef Alex Bolar. Jim and Chef Alex will provide an on site demo of plating while discussing visual aspects of food photography.
Day 2: Restaurant Location Photography: Asterid
SUNDAY: The first part of the day the class will meet on location at Chef Ray Garcia’s Asterid Restaurant at the Disney Concert Hall. Jim will lead the workshop through his lighting and photography setup for the food. He will be covering in-person chef portraiture, working in the kitchen, and cocktail photography. Each attendee will have an opportunity to work on their food photography. Lunch will be served at the restaurant. After lunch, the class will return to the Leica Store to discuss the morning's photography session. Jim will go through each participant's work and provide constructive critiques to each student.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
From seasoned photographers looking to advance their food photography skills or beginners wanting to learn simple techniques to enhance their images of food, anyone interested in learning more about the art of food photography is invited to join.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Having a basic understanding of photography, camera settings, and being familiar with your camera is important. Students must be able to operate their camera's menu navigation and button system on their own. Knowledge of photography basics and understanding of exposure is required. Students do not need any prior lighting experience.
COVID REQUIRMENTS
All participants attending this workshop will be required to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination. This requirement applies to students and instructors.
SPECIAL NOTES
Class is strictly limited to 12 participants. All camera brands are welcome.
There will be a limited selection of Leica products available for attendees to use.
Jim Sullivan will be working with the Leica SL2 system for the workshop.
