DESCRIPTION:

For centuries, humans have looked upwards towards the night sky. The mysteries in the universe unfold themselves to the eyes and cameras fixed on them. Learn how to create stunning Milky Way images in the iconic location of the Central Cascades.

Rick will lead the course with his M11, but any camera and fast lens will do. Having a Leica camera is not a requirement. Limited Leica equipment will be available for those who want to try out new gear.

  • Properly setting your camera up for success
  • Software for editing to maximize the image.
  • Best practices on using apps and more to find the best night sky conditions.
  • Developing your best image

 

AGENDA: July 26-28, 2024

Friday - July 26, 2024 

Afternoon: Students arrive and check in at Iron Horse Inn. Then travel to first location and set up for first night of photography. 

Dinner: Return to Iron Horse Inn to fuel up and prepare equipment.

Night: First night of photography under the stars until midnight.

 

Saturday - July 27, 2024

Morning: Breakfast at the bunkhouse & editing previous nights astrophotography

Afternoon: Lunch at the bunkhouse then travel to New location & setup

Evening: Dinner at the bunkhouse returning to second location once the stars come out for second night of photography

 

Sunday - July 28, 2024

Morning: Breakfast at the Bunkhouse & Final editing with group review

Noon: Check out & Final goodbyes

 

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS WORKSHOP:

This workshop is open to beginning photographers and those looking to learn new specialized skills with astrophotography. Participants who love to photograph the night sky will walk away with new tools and techniques to enhance their astrophotography journey.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:

While the main activity will occur under the dark skies of the Central Cascades, there will be plenty of time to focus on setup, location selection and composition. After each night’s photographic capture, participants will regroup in the AM for editing sessions aimed at producing the finest image possible.

We will be based at the Iron Horse Inn in Cle Elum, Wasington about 1 and a half hours from Seattle. Participants will need their own tripod, SD card and laptop with editing software.

Instructor

An accomplished photographer across multiple genres, Rick has successfully illustrated that you don’t have to be just a one style photographer. His works encompass sports, landscapes, seascape, wildlife and astrophotography. He currently is the Director of Photography for Bellevue College Athletics and collaborates with several interior designers who use his works for staging.

 

He has worked closely with the MLS Seattle SoundersFC and the Seattle Mariners.
