Many Leica photographers want to shoot in the street. It is part and parcel to the brand's DNA. But many of us do not know how to start. This workshop is designed for those who know their camera but are new to composition techniques or to street photography and want to begin the process of understanding what makes a good image great. To do this you need to learn to see.

Join Leica professional photographer and Akademie instructor, Lauren Welles, as she guides you through the process of seeing. You will gain an understanding of how to capture impactful images and craft them into a creative visual narrative.

Lauren is a freelance photographer and former corporate attorney who left an unfulfilling, 16-year career, to follow her passion for photography. She is attracted to ideas and stories that display our commonalities as people; she believes that, as human beings, we are much more alike than we are different. One of her greatest joys is to make candid photographs of people, in which a single frame can tell a multitude stories.

Her photography has received several awards and has been exhibited at various venues around the world, including: "The Fence" at Photoville, the Museum of the City of New York; Arsenal Gallery Central Park, The Half King Photo Series, and Coolture Impact’s interactive exhibit in Times Square/Port Authority, all in New York City; HistoryMiami Museum; HeadOn Photo Festival, Sydney, Australia; and Gudberg Nerger Gallery, Hamburg, Germany. Her work and interviews have been published in various publications, including the New York Times; La Repubblica, CBS News, The New Yorker, Slate Magazine, Clavoardiendo, Spain, and various street photography books.

In addition to being a Leica Akademie instructor, Lauren teaches photography to high school students from underserved communities at the NYC SALT program in New York City.
