DESCRIPTION:

Have you ever wanted to learn how to connect with your subject and photograph them in their best light, if so, this is the workshop for you. 

During this one-day workshop, Leica Professional Photographer and Leica Akademie Instructor, Mark Mann will guide you through the process of creating and finding the best light for your subject. Compare the difference between continuous light and strobes, while learning to quickly make a connection with your subject to bring their personality to the portrait.

  • How to quickly connect with your subject

At the conclusion, of the hands-on program, participants will come away with a better understanding of the creative and technical considerations needed to create impactful portraits with lighting.

AGENDA:  

9:45am - 5:30pm with a break for lunch

The full day sessionincludes an introduction to studio portrait lighting, three separate opportunities to work with models under different lighting. The day will conclude with a review of the images created and Q&A with Mark Mann.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS WORKSHOP:

Anyone interested in learning how to use continuous and strobe lighting to create dynamic portraits.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: 

You should have a basic understanding of photography as well as your camera. You should also have a basic knowledge of image processing.

Having a Leica camera is not required for the program. We will have a selection of Leica Cameras and lenses for you to borrow during the workshop. 

Please bring an extra SD card if you would like to try one of our cameras. It is also a good idea to bring extra cards and batteries for your camera as well.

INSTRUCTOR

Mark Mann  is a celebrity and advertising photographer. He was born in Glasgow, where he lived until he went to study in the prestigious photographic program at Manchester Polytechnic. Before long, the recent graduate was assisting innovative fashion photographers Nick Knight and Miles Aldridge, learning the ropes and building his own body of work. Three years later, Mark started shooting on his own, relocating to New York City.

 

Mark’s editorial work has appeared in Esquire, Men’s Health, Vibe, Spin, Fortune, Billboard, Parade and Complex, among others. He has shot countless celebrities, including Robert Redford, Michael Douglas, Iggy Pop, Jack Black, the Black Eyed Peas, Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Rihanna, Queen Latifah, Simon Baker, Stevie Wonder, Bradley Cooper, Willie Nelson, Sean Connery, John Hamm and Jennifer Hudson. Mark has amassed a sizable advertising portfolio, as well. His clients run the gamut: Reebok, Adidas, Hennessy, Bombay Sapphire, Pepsi, Gillette, Vitamin Water, NHL, Zumba, Ford, Chrysler and Svedka to name a few.

INSTRUCTOR

John Kreidler is our East Coast Product Specialist and co-host of Leica’s streaming Tech Talk program on YouTube. John brings more than 25 years’ experience providing imaging and production insight to professional photographers and enthusiasts alike.

Equal parts, photographer, educator, and trainer, John can frequently be found, giving those interested in Leica products an opportunity to experience them in a real-life situation, during Pro Discovery Days, Leica Store events and Akademie workshops, throughout the country.

An accomplished photographer, his on-going obsession with capturing light and shadow started from an early age. He strives to move beyond the beautiful snapshot and create an image that evokes emotion in the viewer’s mind. Most recently, John’s work was selected to appear in the new book, “Inspiration Leica Akademie.”
