Leica Monovid 8 x 20 with case

The Leica Monovid 8 x 20 with 8-fold magnification is a true high-end monocular. Its elegant design is as impressive as its superior technology; making it ideal for birdwatchers and hikers who need to travel light, or for concert-goers and sports fans alike.

Its special feature:
A close-up lens that allows detailed observation of objects at distances as close as 25-30 cm which is perfect for viewing butterflies and insects. Simply screwing this accessory onto the front lens lets users experience a macro effect that reveals even the finest details. It is also particularly practical: when not in use, the lens can be safely stored in the leather case provided - the best place to keep it safe and sound. Another ingenious feature of the elegant case is its silent magnetic fastener, which ensures that nothing is surprised or scared away.

The aluminum body is nitrogen-filled to prevent misting, and its lenses are coated with water and dirt repellent AquaDuraTM coating. Furthermore, in contrast to all other monoculars, it is not only splash-proof but fully waterproof to a depth of 5m (16.5 ft). So come rain or shine Leica Monovid owners can be certain they will have the perfect view.

Its extremely compact size, versatility, and weight of only 112 g (under 6 oz) makes it an ideal companion that fits in any jacket pocket and can be right at your fingertips whenever you need it.

The essentials:

  • Black leather
  • 8x magnification for quiet and brilliant image results

    Not just a telescope!

Posted by Bill Gibson on Apr 7th 2021

Optically excellent, beautifully designed and made, this little scope includes an objective lens which doubles its' usefulness, making it a really nice dissection microscope for my botanical interests as well as a small telescope for the enjoyment of nature.

Awesome Leica quality of Monocular. Case, not so much.

Posted by Wes Hastings on Jan 12th 2020

As with other Leica products I own, the quality is off the charts.
However, the leather case has a clever system where a strap is attached to the lid, so that when the lid is opened, it "lifts" the monocular out of its case, making it easier to grab. The strap on my case appears to be too short, causing the lid to not close all the way. I have submitted an online request for a replacement to Leica's Customer Service group, but have not yet heard back from them.
