DESCRIPTION: 

Planned to coincide with Greg Hatton’s exhibition currently on display at the Leica Store Bellevue, this one-of a-kind workshop, offers, for the first time, the opportunity for a small group of photographers to collaborate in a group exhibition, inspirited by the concept of “Process” at the Leica Store in Bellevue. 

Designed as both an investigation and celebration of the process of photography, combining lecture, discussions and hand-on assignments, over the course of four days, attendees will gain deeper insight into the thought process behind planning a showcase of one’s work.

From camera choice and shot selection through to curation and exhibition; Greg Hatton will share all of the pieces that go into creating a deeply personal gallery experience.

  • Steps to preparing work for exhibition
  • Different approaches to visual storytelling
  • Curiosity, observation, equity, creativity and collaboration
  • BTS: How to document what you create
  • The importance of community in photography

Students will have the opportunity to prepare new or existing pieces of their own work for showcase in the final show.   

My exhibition takes you from the moment of seeing something, all the way to seeing that moment on a gallery wall. From the thought, the technique, the trial and error and the capture; to the people and the places that make these stories worth telling. WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS WORKSHOP: 

Intermediate to advanced photographers who have an interest in collaboration and sharing work with the public are encouraged to apply. This is an invitation to photographers worldwide with existing images, and stories to share as well as artists with a with a keen interest in creating new images, made on site related to the Pacific Northwest.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:   

Camera & computer knowledge: Students are expected to be comfortable with both their cameras and photo editing software. Students will need to have the ability to download and edit images between sessions.

BIO: 

Greg Hatton is an award winning, Los Angeles born, documentary photographer and filmmaker. With his intentional nature and attention to the quality of the image, his work has often been described as a form of Fine Art PhotoJournalism. His work is deeply rooted in direct interaction with people from around the world and showcases strong evidence of curiosity, observation, equity, creativity and collaboration. Throughout his career Greg has demonstrated an expertise in capturing compelling visual stories and is adept at combining technical skills with artistic vision to deliver powerful and thought-provoking experiences through photography. A motto he’s known for is “See the world and then show it to us” offers a glimpse at Greg’s perspective. He has become both a spokesperson and a teacher with an extremely humanistic focus to not only photography and filmmaking; but within community. And he lives with an underlying goal to contribute to the telling of our story, in our time.
