From the iconic Ferry Building and its striking waterfront vistas to the historic charm of Chinatown and the sleek modernity of downtown skyscrapers, this tour offers a dynamic exploration of the city's diverse architectural styles.

Guided by an experienced Akademie Instructor Francisco Marin and Ray Olson. You'll learn to harness natural light, frame compelling compositions, and capture the unique character of each structure. Whether you're drawn to the timeless beauty of historic landmarks or the bold lines of contemporary design, this immersive experience will refine your skills and inspire your creative vision in one of the world’s most photogenic cities.

AGENDA: April 4-6, 2025

Friday: Meet & Greet + Lecture 

4:00pm-6:30pm: Hosted at Leica Store San Francisco. This evening will serve to introduce students to the main concepts of the workshop. From here we will prepare for Saturday Mornings shoot and loan out equipment for participants.

Saturday: Day of Photography

9:00am-3:00pm: Students will meet at the Ferry Building to take advantage of the early morning light. This will allow us to capture striking shots of the skyline as we begin an all-day field session. 

Evening: Students are invited to participate in a one-hour night photography session to explore and enjoy the beauty of San Francisco after dark. 

Sunday: Open Morning & Afternoon Editing

8:00am-11:00am: Start the morning with a photo walk around the areas near the Leica Store (Chinatown, California Street, etc.).  

12:00pm-4:00pm: Reconvene at the Leica Store at noon for the editing session Following this will close the weekend with a Q&A and discussion.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

This Architecture Photography workshop invites aspiring artists and photographers who are eager to expand their skills and discover captivating new perspectives in their everyday surroundings. Join fellow street photographers in an immersive experience designed to help you conquer and truly master your urban landscape.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:

This workshop will be an intensive 3-day course with multiple locations to feature inspiring architecture. Students should expect some intensive walking and being out in the weather during this weekend. 

Due to San Francisco ever changing weather this courses agenda and photography destinations are subject to change. Leica Akademie will keep students up to date as the course approaches.

Camera Equipment may be supplied by Leica Camera on a first come first serve basis. This includes cameras and lenses but not Tripods, students are encouraged to bring them.

INSTRUCTOR:
Francisco Marin is a Mexican born architect and photographer. Besides being an avid traveler around the world, mostly in Asia, he lived in China and Singapore for 16 years where he dedicated his time to own and operate a successful photography studio with focus on Architecture and Fashion. In 2006 he started to teach photography in Shanghai until 2013 when he moved to Singapore. In Singapore, he continued his studio and started to teach at Leica Akademie in 2015. He taught different systems as well as other topics and became an Ambassador for the APC-S Leica camera systems. He was also photography teacher at LaSalle School of Arts in Singapore. Francisco also had shown his works in several exhibitions in Asia. He has 2 awards as a film maker in Shanghai at a local film festival. He is currently living in the US. He continues with his studio and is a member of Leica Akademie North America.

INSTRUCTOR

Ray Olson is the West Coast Product Specialist for Leica Camera.  Ray has an extensive background in photographing music performances and as a studio and studio on-location portrait photographer.  His camera work in the past, utilized 35mm, medium, and large format systems. These images have graced the covers of music magazines, album art, tour books, and musical instrument advertising campaigns.  In addition, he has taught seminars and classes on Studio Lighting, Lighting on Location, Color Management, and Camera Technique for both film and digital capture platforms.  Ray also has a strong history in both the retail and wholesale sides of the Photographic Industry.
