INSTRUCTOR

JuanCarlos Gonzalez is a Puerto Rican photojournalist and visual storyteller based in Plymouth, Vermont. Specializing in portrait, event, food and landscape photography, JuanCarlos creates dynamic, emotionally resonant imagery rooted in authenticity, human connection, and place.

 

Raised in the coastal town of Maunabo, Puerto Rico, he was first inspired by the images in newspapers and magazines, igniting a passion to explore and document the world through photography. Today, he brings that same wonder to every assignment—capturing stories that bridge cultures, celebrate resilience, and honor the quiet power of everyday life.

 

His work has been featured in Leica Fotografie International (LFI), Vogue Italia, The Boston Globe, National Geographic, NatGeo Travel UK, Vermont State Parks, and more.

In 2023, JuanCarlos launched Vermont Female Farmers, his signature portrait and documentary series featuring 45 women shaping the future of agriculture in the Green Mountain State. Since its debut, the exhibition and companion book which is part of the general collection at the Library of Congress have traveled to prestigious institutions including the Fleming Museum of Art, Billings Farm & Museum, Bennington Museum, Leica Gallery Boston, and the Vermont State House.

JuanCarlos also served as Director of Arts Programming at IBA Boston, New England’s largest Latinx nonprofit, where he led community-driven arts and cultural initiatives for six years. When not on assignment, JuanCarlos is a marathoner and avid tennis player. He has completed 11 marathons—including Paris, Stockholm, Big Sur, and six Boston Marathons—as well as a 375-mile cycling journey around Puerto Rico
